General Fusion – One of the most promising Nuclear Fusion Projects

Fusion energy systems are needed because:

1. They will produce abundant electricity

2. Eliminate greenhouse gases, thus reducing the risk of Global Climate Change

3. Use fuel that is abundant ie sea water

4. Allow energy to be produced closer to where it will be used

5. Leaves no radioactive by-products

6. Is very safe in that there can not be a runaway reaction

7. I don’t believe that renewable energy sources will be adequate to meet world energy needs, not to mention the want for energy.

Some fusion energy companies in the world are predicting they can commercialize nuclear fusion. Recently, a group of fusion industry companies have started and association. Their methods are all different. They consider factors like fuel type, design, confinement system and methods, size, temperature, pressure and volume needed to achieve fusion etc.

I like their system because:

1. The system is compact and might be integrated with existing steam electricity generators.

2. It can breed its own fuel.

3. It is modular so can produce enough for a variety of applications. It might be good for developing countries that currently don’t have access to cheap locally produced electricity.

4. Production of electricity can be on demand because it will operate like a diesel engine; once the pistons produce enough compression, the fuel ignites in pulses.

5. The research and development is partly funded by an oil company, Cenovus. Fossil fuel producers should not be part of the Global Climate change problem, but rather develop clean energy.
